I disagree.  Back in my days as a physics major and then as a
navigator, I had a number of slide rules, in both the linear style and
the circular style.  None were designed to do addition (or
subtraction).  They could perform those operations only by indirect
means, such as converting the problem first into one of division, or
by using the L scale back and forth, and reading the result at the
zero mark.

I would never say that addition is easy on a slide rule;  quite the
contrary.  I certainly dispute the statement " that's what they do
best."
