Thanks Igor - downloaded it, installed it and it displayed 20-odd PEF files in 
one folder
in less than 30 seconds from start to finish (64-bit version)

There was a raw file viewer add-on for XP. It worked sort of half assed. 
It would display the raw files as thumbnails, but took FOREVER to load them. 
And it hogged
all the resources so you couldn't do anything else, including switch away or 
close the
window, until all of the thumbnails had loaded. Screen refreshes once it had 
loaded were
very slow as well, like if you had to scroll down to see more images.

Did I mention that it took FOREVER to load?
