What you're describing sounds like when we use our cameras at higher ISO, 
reducing the dynamic range.  Which would make sense, because with smaller 
sensors, and smaller pixels, you get less dynamic range.  When they start 
producing mu4/3 with rear illuminated sensors, they won't get the dynamic range 
of the K-5, but they might start getting something close to the K-7.

What I've noticed among friends shooting Canon is that when they take photos of 
people, the highlights on the skin look almost washed out, if not blown out.  
But, I think that could just be a metering, and processing choice.  I usually 
work hard to keep detail in the highlights, and usually shoot in manual 
exposure.
