I kind of got that Mark, but I still find it strange when people go into public
rants about Facebook or GMail or any other free service. Maybe that IS a more
effective way to get changes than a polite note to the provider of the free
service. But it is a very bizarre sense of entitlement which would lead someone
to expect they should get more than they paid for. In this case, as I
understand his post, the guy expects to use Facebook facilities to enhance the
reach and utility of his blog which is on some other platform. Facebook would
like to make money, they would like to see their users become a captive
audience, and they are going to do what they can to limit freeloaders like this
blogger who is trying to take advantage of them. On the privacy question, well
of course they will capture and use everything they can about you and what you
do. That is their business model. Ditto Google. You would think that some users
think the tooth fairy is providing free gratis service to them out of the
goodness of its heart.
