Just had a run through myself; EXCELLENT magazine. The file size is huge, but once you have read the issue you can archive it, and re-download if you want to revisit something. The app for Photographer's i magazine runs exactly like the app for The New Yorker magazine, so if you're familiar with that app usage, you should have no problem working this app. Just as an FYI, as you know, the New Yorker publishes poetry and fiction. In the iPad version, audio files of the poets and fiction writers reading their work is included . Really great stuff, especially for poetry--poetry is at its best when read aloud--in my view anyway.
As Godfrey states this magazine is filled with video, audio, image galleries, and text. What I really like about it is its clean layout. Young, hip editors like to create splashy, busy, frenetic layouts, which say more about layouts than the content. The best layout draws you in to the content so you focus on that, and not the trendy placement of elements. And boy the content is REALLY thoughtful! The photographer videos and audio files are thoughtful, and there are some really cool approaches to how-to stuff: a gallery of unsuccessful images and nice commentary on why they are, in fact, unsuccessful. The commentary by food photographer, Robert Golden, was very interesting--not what I expected. And Steve Simon's photo essay and commentary--very nice. If this magazine can keep the quality of the content up, wow, it's gonna go places. If it begins to rehash all the usual stuff, it will end up a dud.
