Popped into the curator talk at Stills Gallery tonight for the Magnum Contacts show. Beautiful presentation, and the talk was funny, informative and charming. Highly recommended if you are in Sydney for the next week.

Bonus, there are some gob smacking huge Trent Parke prints on the other side of the gallery, itself worth a visit

Damn - looks as if I won't be able to get to see that. Then again, I'm not sure I'd want to be in the same room with that many Margaret Thatchers.

Cheers

Brian

Thanks for looking, Brian, and those who did.

I am surprised as you. Curator said the contact sheets are a very big seller for Magnum, and the Maggie Thatcher set is one of the biggest.

Another interesting thing she said. Magnum closely monitor click rates, sales tallies and alike. This bumps up the ratings of images where the toppermost is "iconic". There is not that much curatorial intervention, or peer review on what should be a valuable image. Maggie is up there.
