The killdeer photos seem to be consistent with two black rings around the neck area rather than one.
The second ring is hidden by the angle it's photographed from. It extends across the chest lower than the ring around the neck.
Here's a good closeup that shows the red circle around the eye & how the lower black "ring" is not complete.
