It's not the sensel density, it's the chip size. The larger the chip, the fewer that you can fit onto standardized silicon wafers. Since the defect rate is fairly constant across a wafer, having larger chips means that you have fewer chips per wafer, and with the defect rate, a smaller percentage of usable chips.
