I always thought that one of the reasons we wear underwear is to prevent "rot" 
in our outerwear. 

I dunno. Just don't make sense to me. Perhaps I'll just think about something 
else for a while...

There are few opportunities to change your underwear if you're out on a 
long range patrol. Undergarments get a bit too ripe from the 
accumulation of funk. Even if you wear boxers they rot after a while.
