As an alternative to using email, after they open on Monday you can contact Nik via their Chat explaining the ALT tag as Bruce has quoted it. They'll give you a download link and license number and also put the info on your Nik account page so you can download it from there.

John, examine the plaintext source of that message. You'll find
there's an alt tag associated with one of the images with this phrase:
alt="You qualify for a free copy of HDR Efex Pro 2"

Most mailers don't support hover-overs in embedded images, so most
people would never see this. We have Darren's eagle-eyes to thank. :-)

I sent serv...@niksoftware.com an email but they're closed over the
weekend, so I haven't heard back yet.

I'm not sure what that all means. The download link you show says it's
$99.95 unless you're already a registered user of HDR Efex Pro (which I
am) then it's $49.95 - either way, that ain't free.

Other than the monthly Nik Software Newsletter that I already receive,
the only thing I've received from Nik recently is a notice that as a
result of the sale, my "customer information" will be transferred to
Google in December; it will become subject to Google's privacy policy;
and that should I chose to not Opt Out of the transfer:

you may receive information regarding Nik and Google products,
depending if you had opted into receiving that type of information in
the past from Nik Software

- which I interpret to mean the monthly Nik Software Newsletter will
become a monthly Google+Nik Software Newsletter in January.

From: Darren Addy

You may recall not too long before Nik was purchased by Google where
we (those of us that were interested) got some free Nik Software,
namely
Silver Efex Pro 2
and
Color Efex Pro 3 (standalone).

No doubt, you like me got an email recently from Nik Software & Google
(like within the past 24 hours). My gmail does not load images
immediately (until I click a link) and so this is what I saw in the
email that I got from them:
http://www.antiqueauto.org/assets/WouldLikeMyFreeCopyHDREfexPro2.png

As you can see the ALT text for the image that loads says that I
qualify for a free copy of HDR Efex Pro 2.
Now I have to tell you that I absolutely hate the imagery that usually
passes for "HDR" these days, but I know that it can be done WELL (as
in photo-realistically and not over-cooked). And, hey! If I qualify...

So, I emailed their support team this morning and said simply:

Attaching a screenshot of the email I received from Google + Nik last
night. Please tell me how to receive the free copy of HDR Efex Pro 2 that
I
qualify for.

Thank you.

I received an auto-reply this morning that it would be 1-2 business
days before I heard from them, but just now I received from them a
download link and serial number for HDR Efex Pro 2 (which you can see
here is a $99.95 program:

http://www.niksoftware.com/store/usa/entry.php?view=singlepurchase/HDR2.shtml
).

So, if you received a similar email, you might want to go and log-in
to your Nik Software account and see if your download link is there
(and if it isn't you may want to make a gentle inquiry). Good luck!
