Thanks, Frank and Bob.

No, I much rather you did contact me off-the-list as it takes my mind off these matters which I admit is a good thing.

Glad to see you posting, Boris.

Because of your last post I have resisted contacting you off-list or
commenting on-list.

Thoughts are with you and your family.

Cheers,
frank

Jos,

Here are few points that I find relevant:

1. The price/quality and price/reliability ratio of DA* 16-50 is high.
Although I am not terribly bothered by the soft corners at wider
apertures and wider focal lengths, it is a bit unpleasant to look at
wide shots Galia and I took in our most recent trip to USA only to see
softness where ideally it ought to be sharp...

2. I did not have any SDM troubles with my sample, *yet*. That is, I am
going to emphasize that specifically in my ad for it - no SDM issues
whatsoever, *yet*.

3. I might use a slightly longer reach for outdoor situations where
maximal aperture of f4.5 won't be that objectionable.

4. Yes, the HSM OS lens is better on the paper. However in terms of
mechanical longevity the fact that it has the whole optical group
designed to be movable is not something I'd appreciate.

5. I've just missed an opportunity to buy one such lens for USD 195
(plus shipping, taxes on my side, etc). So it is not very expensive.

I've been introduced to this lens by Jaume few years ago when we met
here. So I kind of know this lens and even then I remember I was quite
surprised by it.

I hope my answer makes sense to you.

Boris

Hi Boris,
I wonder why you want the older one.
I have the older one. I am happy with it, but last week in the
theatre, I had to switch it to manual focus because of the
screwdriver
noise. The HSM version would have been silent I guess.
At the other hand: I try to avoid HSM lenses for reliability reasons.
What are your arguments for wanting screwdriver and not HSM?

Hi!

I'm looking for Sigma 17-70/2.8-4.5 (not the modern OS HSM version,
but the older one). I'm willing either to buy it or to trade it for
my
DA* 16-50/2.8. In the case of trade some money would have to come
along with the Sigma lens.

Thanks.

Boris
