As was pointed out, you can still get refurbs. However, you get some amazing resolution with the retina displays, 2560x1600 in 13" or 2880x1800 in 15". If you'd be carrying it about, I'd be inclined to suggest a 13" laptop, and use the money you save to buy a large external display.
