IIRC, the lens barrel of the 77mm Ltd is aluminum, which indicates that the black finish is probably anodized. Good anodizing can be a lot more durable than chrome.
I wonder if the silver finish on the lens is really chrome, as Pal seemed to indicate. The finish on my 43mm doesn't look like chrome. I don't believe that aluminum can be chrome plated.
