Could be I can get one really cheap, anybody have first-hand
experience with it and maybe even mounting Pentax lenses on it? The
list of supported lenses on the Sigma web is extremely small.

I have an older Sigma 1.4 EX (pre-DG) and it works well with my Sigma
300f/2.8 & Tokina 80-200f/2.8.

Build quality is adequate, and it's only a little soft for digital. The
DG version should be optimized much better for digital.

The only lens that's ever given me any trouble is the "Bigma" (Sigma
50-500), but that's not a fault with the converter.

If the price is "really cheap", it's probably worth it.
