In the early stages of fungus growth, it can usually be eliminated by a good camera tech. I spent $60 to have a lens with moderate fungus growth cleaned. The tech reported that there was o damage to the coatings, and that he was able to remove all of the fungus. That was several years ago, and the lens is fine.
