Generally it's not my special occasions I'm concerned about but that
of clients, and funny you should suggest taking a second camera as I
do carry a pair of K5's on all shoots but for speed, they still need
to be reliable. As I don't have time to stuff around changing lenses I
run one body with long lens and grip and the other with a short lens,
both bodies are on straps at the ready. When the camera with the grip
has locked it's been a pain because the grip must be removed too.

I think that you would find that the pros migrate towards equipment
that doesn't exhibit such failure modes, hence few shoot Pentax, just
try to find complaints about camera lock ups (that aren't readily
remedied by a trip to the service centre) for current top line Canon
and Nikon bodies.
