I've never quite understood that whole "early bird catches the worm"
thingy. It's like ...

"You got me up at oh dark thirty TO EAT WORMS? You commie SOB ... DIE!!!"

Dawn is the traditional time for having people taken out and shot. Get
me up before dawn and you better have coffee waiting.

I think he was grumpy. He didn't seem impressed with the cold morning
air. It's as if he were saying, "I told everyone we should stay
another couple of weeks down south!"

Pissed or not he was puffed up for the cold and had tucked his beak
into his chest to keep warm.

He may have been annoyed with me, too. I was trying to inch closer
and closer to him and I may have come one step too close for his
comfort.

Within an hour all the swallows had taken to the air; the sky was
filled with them. It was pretty cool.

Thanks for the comment and thanks as well to everyone else who looked
and commented.

In an hour by the lake this (and maybe one other) was my keeper. It
was felt good to get one decent one, though.

Cheers, frank
