The image that came to my mind was the Penguin from the old Batman TV show.

One detail that I forgot to mention to Aahz regarding lens sharpness 
is that almost any decent lens is going to be nice and sharp in the f/8-f/11
range. So it is important to use lenses where they are the strongest.
I suspect that my DA35 macro is a lot sharper than the 18-250 at 35mm and f/4.
It's nearly infinitely sharper at f/2.8, or at 1:1 magnification.
