I'm willing to delve for you Dave :)

I'm going to go drop into Henry's later this afternoon. I was eyeing a Vivitar 105
f2.5 1:1 Macro lens that is up for bids on Ebay (brand new). Thought I could snag it
by dropping a high enough bid on it. Guess what, the bid wasn't high enough (My tops
was $175.00 US). So now I'm hunting and I'm going to Henry's to see what they've
got/what they can do.

I'll report back with my findings in terms of a % reduction (if any) in the "listed"
cost on their used items.

As an aside, before selling my 645n on Ebay a few weeks back, I called Henry's to see
what they could give me for it sight unseen. They gave me a price ($250 less than
what I actually got for it) and told me that they're backlogged and have a ton of 645
"stuff" (never mentioned particular brands) to get rid of.

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Dave.
I quess the big question is,are there any savings even
doing the dollar conversion,if you wind up paying
GST etc.
They have several SMC A 20-210 f 4's ranging from $205 US
to around $140 US.If i have to pay GST on the $205 ex condition
one, plus shipping,it works out to what Henrys wants for theirs
$369 Can(i'm sure they can come down some what)
Have to delve into this a bit more, ponder, ponder UmmmmUmmm

Dave

Good question Dave.
I too have been using the KEH site for a number of things:
1) as a "thermometer" for prices/grades of equipment I see elsewhere
(i.e. Ebay)
2) as a comparison to local (i.e. Henry's / Downtown Camera) shops
that sell similar used goods.

I'd like to hear about the issues at the border as well.
WRT Canada Customs; it seems to me, from my recent Ebay buying
extravaganza, that there is no hard or fast rule on used (or even
new) equipment coming across the border.  What I did notice, is that
it depends on who's carrying those items across the border.

Recently I've received a 21mm Zeiss Hologon for my G2.  This was
purchased new from ebay from a Retail dealer auction (similar to
Adorama) in upstate NY.  This came to me via UPS and I forked over
$70.00 in GST.

I've also received a 35mm Zeiss Planar (again for the G2) from Ebay
from England and it arrived via Purolator.  The lens was used but
cost me $400 CDN to purchase.  No taxes, duties or levies needed to
be paid.

My 2 cents.
Dave

Just wondering if any of our Canadian list
members have dealt/bought from KEH and if so
are there any border crossing problems to be aware
of??
