I'm reasonably confident that each of the stages is a killer, every year, from my perspective. I have a couple of friends who ride sportifs. They can cycle up Alps at over twice the speed I can cycle on the flat, and they cycle at less than half the speed of the tour riders, and they don't do it day after day for two weeks.
