This is a phone snap of Beddlestead Lane:

I cycled to Brighton today, and my normal route for getting out of London
takes me along Beddlestead Lane. In my mind it is the moment when you truly
know you're out of London, and it always makes me catch my breath to see
this valley (and I always mean to bring a proper camera and take a proper
picture in proper light...).

The lane itself is the curving line from right to left through the bottom of
the valley. Unfortunately for me, the descent is very twisty, the lane is
very narrow, and there is a lot of gravel, so I never have the courage to
take it at full pelt. Normally very fit young men overtake at high speed me
as I struggle up the other side, but just recently I have been able to pass
other wheezing middle-aged men, so things must be getting better!

Today I went over Ditchling Beacon for the first time - to my surprise I
didn't have to get off and push, even after 60 miles of cycling, and in fact
I actually overtook several people!

Cheers,
Thunder Thighs!
