Which lens(es) do you currently have? My inclination would be to go with the lens first. The body isn't as important unless you need AF to capture fast-moving subjects, and MedF can be expensive to jump into, both in terms of equipment and processing. Why not see how far you can push 35mm, and then get MedF if you want better quality? As for lenses, look for anything from roughly 75mm to 150mm. 85mm and 135mm are the two most popular focal lengths from Pentax. 135mm's tend to be less expensive and easier to find, though some people find that too long of a focal length. In any case, primes are generally preferable to zooms for static portraits. Try to find an M85/2 or 100/2.8 (non-macro version). chris - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
