I didn't know the culture reference, as it was before my time, and
I am bad with remembering names. But do recall hearing the sign-off
quoted by Don G. ("Good night, Mrs Calabash, wherever you are").
Now I got to read about the history of it.
Most of Jimmy Durante's work was before my time but I remember him in
one of the Walters' family's all time favourites "It's a Mad, Mad,
Mad, Mad World" (slapstick, sight gags, great cast overacting - ya
gotta love it!). Durante literally kicked the bucket in the first 15
minutes.
We still drag that movie out regularly and laugh our arses off....

I agree with what Brian wrote about the looks of the fish.
Besides, I know people frequently say about various creatures (especially
insects) that those are ugly. But in reality, I think, that comes from
the projection of the looks of those creatures onto human looks, and
judging by humans understanding of beauty.
I think measuring everything by humans' look is limiting.
Besides, not all cultures have the same ideas about what is beatiful,
and what's ugly.
E.g. in some south-eastern Asia (Burma, Thailand?), there are tribes
that value large ears, long necks, etc..
