Alan,

Sultanahmet area of Istanbul is the old city with a few
landmarks, including Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia (Aya Sofya), 
and Topkapi Palace. 
The mosque you see in the background is Aya Sofya.

I will probably post the photo of the  Blue Mosque to the list soon.

There are also many small hotels (essentially B&B's), and some
of the roof tops of those are breakfast lounges (as was the one from 
which I took that photo.)
The photo was taken into the "inner yard", so it catches all those
"simple" details of the "everyday life".
