I have the earlier still Sigma 18-35 3.5-4.5 - and it is very sharp! Only issue I have found it occasionally locks up when focusing on the ist-D, but a quick reset fixes it. It should be a great lens for the shows you'll be doing, I think.

I have three shows to shoot before Sunday so it will get a good work-out in place of my Sigma 17-50/2.8, conditions permitting.
