They are not domesticated, just quite inured to the presence of humans. They come right up on our deck, to eat the potted flowers there. They are somewhat cautious on our lawn, as they know we have a large dog who may chase them, but they still come right up to the house. Most of my flowers are on the deck, inside the pool fence, or in a tiny fenced-in rose garden near our front door. I spray the flowers on the deck and the shrubs out in the open with deer repellent, but that works only for a short time. After it rains, they start munching again. We are next to 22 acres of municipally owned green acres preserved wooded area, and between the woods an the stream, so they cross our yard frequently. All of Central New Jersey is affected by deer overpopulation. The municipal government now pays a bow hunting club to thin out our local herds every fall. Twice over the past 4 years, a wounded deer has collapsed and died in our yard, followed in a few minutes by the hunter who was tracking his kill. They offer us some venison or two bottles of wine for the trouble of having it hauled out of our yard; I always accept the wine. <G> Dan Matyola http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/danieljmatyola -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
