After photographing the nest, I sprayed it from the upstairs windows on each side of it, and then from a ladder underneath it. The next day I repeated this process. It looked like I had gotten rid of them, but a few days later, they were flying in and out of the nest again. So, we hired a professional exterminator to come over and treat the nest, as well as inspecting the rest of the building. They sprayed the nest thoroughly, and then knocked it down. In the process, the exterminator got bit several times. It was costly, but at least we got rid of the pests. Not so fast. This morning, I looked up at the eave, and the nest is back! If you look at the image, you can see the outline of the old nest; the new one is in the same place, but it is just a bit smaller and less regular, so the outline of the location of the old nest can be seen clearly. Here is the new nest: http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=17827129 I think that the shape, texture and subyle coloration are quite interesting. In this view, Several insects can be seen around the nest. Comments are invited.
