It has an infrared port does it not?

It does but I find it very unreliable. Sometimes it fires the shutter, sometimes it doesn't, at least with the rear port. You need to have the remote perfectly aligned with the port.

I'm not saying that lens will be great on a digital, but I hope you
turned the SR off (that's what asks you for the lens focal length) and
used the long self-timer to allow vibrations to damp down before
firing the shutter. Just the amount of mass balancing on that tripod
head and pushing the shutter button down would be vibration inducing.
I would be interested in seeing what could be obtained at f/8 or so.
As I'm sure you know, you are shooting at approximately 2800mm
effective FOV.

Actually you don't need to turn SR off when using the self timer - it gets
turned off automatically. Just as well because I would never remember to do
it.

This is one application where the Q could really benefit from a wired remote
port - I'm assuming the Q7 doesn't have one either.

Also curious as to the brand of adapter you are using. Thx!

So I put my Q7 on my Pentax K 500mm f4.5 lens:

The lens is pretty awful on digital (lots of chromatic aberration and
very soft) so I don't have any pics from the Q7 worth sharing. I just
thought it would be funny to see.
