Bob, Yes, there are several very different musical interpretations of this song. (And the song has a rich history.) The main ones are: the original 3/4 (waltz) to Florian Hermann's Valse Hommage, and then a couple of Jazz interpretations, typically with 4/4 rythm, - one more mellow, as that of Armstrong I linked to, and the other, - more "staccato", closer to or in gypsy-jazz style that you referenced. And one of the earliest performances that I was able to find in that latter style is this, from 1941 by Harry Parry and his radio sextet:

As far as I understand the jazzy version of the music is attributed to Adajgiso Ferraris.

I just found the version that is somewhere in between (although Wikipedia is attributing it to Ferraris) played in 1932 by Albert Sandler:

I am still puzzled why Ferraris is name a composer of the 4/4 version rather than an arranger. To me, that's just an arrangement of the original tune, not a new one.
