It would be great if someone made a K-A compatible extension tube that includes a rotating tripod collar. Don't know if anything like that was ever made for K mount.

Thanks, Mark. Very interesting. After seeing this I Googled “tripod collar” and
found a page with probably 100’s of images of different kinds of set ups. So
much I wouldn’t have imagined.

Hi Eric -

This photo might also be of use:

That is my old setup - photo taken in 2006 with my old tripod and I think an
*ist-D. But you can see how the tripod collar rotates - in that photo the
mounting plate is perpendicular to the the bottom of the camera.

An L-bracket would help with the 90 degree turns but it is nice to have the
tripod collar that can rotate into any alignment with the tripod head.

Never mind, Mark. I see that you’ve already done so.

With the side mounted center post it is easy to get the camera right on the
ground if you want, but I seldom want to do that. The head that I use is just
an old Bogen/Manfrotto grip action head. The secret ingredient in the setup is
the rotating tripod collar on the A*200. It allows the lens to rotate into any
position needed in terms of simple horizontal / vertical alignment.
I’m having a hard time envisioning this—my photographic naiveté. Any chance you
could post a photo of this setup?
