I like the photo. I would suppose that the economy has not developed
enough yet to make cars affordable to the masses, which might be a good
thing and a tradition of bike riding is not a bad thing.

In my recent visit to Japan and China, I found that Tokyo and Beijing
are definitely cities that are dominated by the automobile, even
though Tokyo in particular has magnificent public transportation.
Kyoto, on the other hand, is a much more bike-friendly city. Here is
one of three parking lots surrounding a large mall near the main train
