In Australia, a donga is a temporary accommodation unit. Usually comprises two
or more bedrooms, a
toilet and shower facility, and often a galley. The whole thing is about as
big as a large shipping
container, and they are extensively used to house temporary workforces when
developing greenfield
sites in the remoter parts of the country.

Donga is an Afrikaans word adopted from Zulu (Nguni) which refers to deep
gullies formed on
riverbanks by water erosion during the rainy season. The soil is all washed to
the bottom leaving
steep, rocky approaches on both sides. They were all dry at this time of the
year.

There was an earth dam wall available for the faint hearted 100m downstream but
I'm always up for a
challenge!

I hate those dongas!

(Actually, what's a donga?)

So that's a wonderful photo of a pretty hairy race obstacle. I think I'd have
got off my bike and
ended my race right about there. Before the bridge, not on it.

Cheers,
frank
