Great to see that up close with the sky behind it too!.. Broke many
hearts when
the view of it was blocked on one side by the erection of what is now
the Met Life building (it
was the Pan-Am building at first) ... and adding an ugly background to
it from the other side.
THe PAn-am was completed in 1963... totally ruining forever that
magnificent view looking down
Park Avenue...

Very pleasing shot, Dan... what fun that architecture is!

When I was in The City two weeks ago, I went up to the penthouse suite
of a thirty-four story building on 45th street. I found myself face
to face with the Helmsley Building, a Beaux-Arts style structure on
Park Avenue. It was built in 1929 as the New York Central Building,
and was designed by Warren & Wetmore, the architects of Grand Central
Terminal. I consider it one of the more interesting buildings in
Manhattan.
