My 1st SLR was the iconic Pentax K1000 SE + SMC M 50mm f2 Lens, circa 1978 (38 years ago) for $ 258 with case and a free Pentax SMC UV Filter. I bought it from Oldens of New York. The SE had a prism micro collar with the split image center focus for fine focusing - Made in Japan.
I remember that cold snowy winter night as I took the underground from New York to Jackson Heights - my precious K1000 tucked deep inside my Snow Parka so that I would not get mugged. I got some of the most awesome well exposed shots - at least 29 keepers from a 36 +1 film cassette - the +1 extra shot came from the careful spooling of the paper lead - sometimes even +2 bonus shots. Honestly I do not get so many keepers from today's Pentax DSLRs. And the German Braun flash gave me 90% keepers - simple auto Thyristor. You set the aperture on the camera as read off from the ISO & distance scale on the flash. All you had to do now was to keep firing away as you moved in or out from your subject. The flash's auto eye would control the flash duration for those perfect shots. What PTTL or ETTL ??
