The fresh install of Vista has proven to be much better than what I was using before. It has literally spent days downloading and applying updates and I'm still not sure it is done - it will report "no new updates" and then an hour later ask to install the 32 updates it just downloaded...
Vista made a list somewhere of all the updates that were available at the time you began installing updates. You can have hundreds of updates you still need to install, but Micro$oft hasn't released any new ones that weren't previously on Vista's Windoze Update list. Also, my experience with Vista is that it chokes when you let it try to install too many updates at once. It will download 32 updates, but 30 of the installations will fail. Seems like maybe because the 3rd update it tries to install needs something from the 20th update on the list, and once the 3rd craps out none of the others is going to install. I ended up having to go to "select which updates to install", sorting the list by date and only installing the oldest ones. Depending on their sizes, you might be able to do 5 or 6 at a time. -- Science - Questions we may never find answers for.
