I would expect that to work, taking a working boot drive from one machine to a second with entirely different hardware would be a different story. A clean install means installing all the software again as well. I can't find half the disks for software I was using 3 years ago.

HP laptop. I used the original HP license number and it installed
perfectly. It verified with Microsoft and everything.
