Q: What's the difference between a violin and a viola?
A: There is no difference. The violin just looks smaller because the
violinist's head is so much bigger.

Which reminds me of the joke about the concert master becoming quite
cross with his lead Cellist. After a particularly egregious rendition
of the music being practiced, he looked straight at her and said:
"Madam, there you sit, with that marvelous instrument between your legs
and all you can do is scratch it!"

Tip your waiters, and waitresses. Try the veil. I'll be here all week.

The instrument is a cello.

The sign on the shop (out of the frame) says "Violin Maker."

Exactly my reaction.

I was torn by a question: is it really a violin? It seems to be
larger, more like a viola [or even violoncello (cello)?].
(And I remember some viola players telling me about the rivarly going
on between viola and violin playes..)

Not being an expert, I asked Google...
I saw that people refer to a "violin family" of instruments that
encompasses all of the above (and then some).

But then I read this warning:
" If you call a viola a violin, violists will be very upset. The
equivalent would be mistaking a Canadian for an American."

And for that latter part we have some experts on this list, don't we?

Just passing along... :-)

Cheers,

Igor
