Taka, If you ever intend to scan MF negs/slides, flatbed is pretty much your only option (short of selling your car). I would guess that the best flatbeds would outperform the cheapest slide scanners. I know that Acer ScanWit is a piece of crap, no matter what the reviews say (you will drown in noise). Nikon CoolScanIV (and the older, III) are very decent ones and the cost is in your ballpark. Never laid my hands on Minolta, so I can't say much here. Best,
