So I bought an eBay ME Super. Looks great, has a fine PK-M 50/1.7.

My first Pentax was an ME Super with 50/1.7. But it was a while ago.

Does anybody remember what to do if the mirror & shutter are frozen in
firing position? I.e., mirror down, shutter and film advance not responding.

It came with no batteries, I installed fresh, made no difference. A casual
inspection shows no signs of corrosion in the battery compartment.

Suggestions?

Spank it.
Seriously.
Hold it my the lens and smack it against the palm of your hand.
Failing that, send it back to the seller. I'm pretty sure I have one of
those sitting around. I think it's even a black one.

Wasn't that for when the mirror stuck _up_? I seem to remember having this
problem with mine and it was because the film transport sprockets had somehow
become out of sync with the rest of the mechanism. Turning them with a
thumbnail, until they locked, fixed it.

I'd definitely try that first.
