Very like - the easiest clue to telling them apart (looking at my National Geo bookand photos below) the redpoll has that little cap on his head and the house finch has a streak of red just above the eye but below the crown. I've only seen a redpoll in Alaska and the Yukon.

They tend to hang around our place during summer.  I like them as they merrily 
chirp while flying around, which they seem to do all day.
