I've heard that Tamron has some significant sample variation issues - sounds like you got a bad one. Makes buying their stuff a bit of a crap shoot, though I have to assume that the acceptable samples out number the bad ones since Tamron is still in business.

Just bought one of these from KEH, awaiting delivery. I've not moved up to
the K1 yet but have been looking for an upgrade to the FA 28-70 f4 and FA
28-105 f4-5.6 that I've been using with film. For the time being I'm
planning on using the Tamron with film, but have hopes that it might be up
to snuff for eventual use on a K1.

I've mostly been using primes this summer (F28 f2.8, FA50 f1.7, and DFA 100
f2.8) but sometimes a zoom is the right tool. I tried a Tamron 28-70 f2.8
ATX but the sample I bought had a badly decentered element and so it was
returned. The side of the images that was sharp looked pretty good though.

Any opinions on the 28-75?

Thanks

Mark

PS: KEH has a site-wide sale this weekend, 10% off digital gear and 20% off
film gear. This lens was classified as film gear despite the Di designation.
