Time is worth something. That's what stops me from diddling with every single piece of software that happens along, because to do it usefully takes a lot of time. I'm always disappointed when something that looks very promising turns out to have a fatal flaw such that all my experimenting time was wasted.
Opportunity cost: time spent dinking with one package means I can't spend time on something else that might have been more worthwhile.
