I also have an M* 300/4 which is optically identical and in the case my two examples is slightly but noticeably sharper at all distances and apertures. However due to convenience in the digital age, I end up using the A* a lot more than the M* which is the reverse of when I shot film. Either one will be a lot smaller and lighter than the zoom.
