I don't want Wi_FI.    I have a flip phone that is used only for talk and very occasional text between phones -- no web access at all. ... I feel cable only connection to the web is safer - I only go on line from my lovely big Hp desktop.
ands my TV is only a TV -it isn't "smart".

simplify, simplify, simplify :-)

well - after an hour on the phone with Spectrum tech gal (who gets a gold star
, btw) because my auto set up didn't work - I have lovely high speed now and a
fully functional modem WITHOUT wi-fi. Before getting this new modem
I had my very own modem, for the last um year or so, to save the time warner
charges, but all the set up stuff
on line assumed I had a time warner modem that I had yet to return.

catch 22 but eventually the young lady worked it out - a herculean task I'm
sure. When it finally did get going
the three little blue lights at the bottom of the modem were no longer. WI-fi
disabled and all is right with the world.
I kinda liked finally convincing her that if things were working properly those
little blue lights next to 2.4G,5.4G and MoCA should be off.

So...here's another Spectrum conundrum for you...I have a 3TB NAS that's
supposed to work with DHCP. But when you set it up to get a dynamic IP address
it works for a while, then drops off-line, requiring a re-boot to get it back.
The known work-around is to set it up with a static IP address. Do that and
it's stable. But...here's the kicker...Spectrum will not let you set up static
IP addresses on their modem/router unless you pay extra to subscribe their
their wireless service.

Flash is dead. It's in legacy mode and will disappear completely soon

try your spectrum website speed test with chrome perhaps? That should
should already have flash built-in.

The speed tester at : http://beta.speedtest.net/
doesn't require flash, so you should be good to go.
(Their legacy speedtest page does require flash, so don't bother with
that.)

I have windoze 7 pro - where is it safe to gather and install it to
use
on
either or both Firefox and chrome?
FWIW Chrome has flash built in, and when chrome auto-updates it also
updates its version of flash. Personally I'm reluctant to install
flash other than as part of chrome for that reason.
