Windoze running Win10 Creator (my wife's). PSE10. Every time I try to save an edited image it generates 100000 "phantom" 0 byte temp. files + the edited image - a total of 100001! All one can do is move the image files to another folder & then delete the whole folder with the 100000 0 byte files. Takes ages. No such problem on my computer with identical config. but mine has updated to the Fall update of Creator.

What kind of computer? Windoze? Mac?

I used to get those phantom empty files using PhotoShop years ago, and I
would just delete them, without any detriment to the real image file. For
some reason, PS or whatever was creating the extra files stopped doing that
-- several years ago. It may have something to do with the OS you are
using, since these files have not popped up since I updated to Windoze 10
nat work and Mac OS 10 at home.

Whenever I save an edited image from PSE10 editor (on a second computer),
100001 0 byte temp files with the same name are created. PSE10 on this
computer is as good as useless. They have to be deleted manually which
takes ages. I have uninstalled (deep) & reinstalled without success. Avast
shows no virus problems. I have read some stuff about 0 byte temp files on
the Forums but it doesn't make sense. Also something about a "parasite".
Any ideas?
