The good news being that the Lens registration distance for Nikon F is a
little under 1.5mm longer than it is for Pentax, so if it's made
properly it should maintain infinity focus. Even if it isn't it will
probably be close.

I've thought about doing it but the only third party lenses I own are

lenses are mostly early 1970 acquisitions: 20/4.0, 28/2.0, 55/2.8, 85/2.0,
105/1.8. Ho hum. Hopefully I can find a home for these.
What I think is the prize in this collection is a Nikon ED AF Nikkor 180/2.8 .
I have an inexpensive adapter to K-mount, with a lens insert to allow for
infinity focus. I have on order an adapter which does not have any glass, so no
image degradation but no infinity focus. I look forward to playing with this a
bit!
So, to the question. Is it feasible to permanently replace the Nikon mount with
a K-mount? Maintaining infinity focus without added lens element(s)?
