Hi Dan,
I need to work for a few hours tomorrow in Scotts Valley (just down the
road from Bay Photo). If anyone wants to meet up for breakfast, I'll be
grabbing a bite at Auntie Mame's in Scotts Valley about 9am. That time
of morning it's probably about a 40 minute drive from downtown San Jose,
possibly less.
It's very easy to find on the corner of Mount Hermon Road and Scotts
Valley Drive. I hope to be done by 2PM or so.
At that time of the day the drive is counter commute so it should be
pretty clear. The weather is also supposed to be clear tomorrow:

There are a lot of photo opportunities in this area. I heard something
on the radio about surf warnings, so that could make for some good
photos. Even if the weather as settled down, the surf is probably still
stirred up a bit.
Here are my Santa Cruz County photo albums

Some of my favorite places are:
Even if there won't be a lot of butterflies, Natural bridges can still
be nice:

Seacliff beach in Aptos, with the SS Palo Alto, aka the cement ship

Moss Landing, halfway between Santa Cruz and Monterey:

Fall Creek is the state park walking distance from my house:

The Felton Covered Bridge in Metropolitan downtown Felton is often worth
a 15 minute stop

It's a few blocks from Roaring Camp, which is right next to Henry Cowell
state park

If you enjoy pipe organs, there is one in Boomeria in Bonny Doon (a few
miles from where Robert Heinlein used to live)

North of town there are a bunch of nice beaches around Davenport

including Shark's fin cove

If you enjoy eclectic music, do check out KPIG radio (107 oink 5)
https://www.kpig.com/
It's the radio station that pretty much started the genre Americana
music, or at least coined the term for the mix that they play. Rumor has
it that there are now even folks in England who do internet music shows
in that style.
If you want to swing by my house in Felton, I could even bore you with
my metal prints, consider that as an offer or a threat as appropriate.
For food in this area we've got a pretty wide selection. In Felton we've
got the Cremer house which has yuppified comfort food and a large craft
beer and cider assortment. Across the street is Flynn's, a new place
slightly upmarket. John Craige will be doing a sold out show tomorrow,
but the restaurant should still be open.
In Santa Cruz, India Joze is a very interesting hole in the wall with
Asian inspired food.
Mission Street BBQ, not far from Natural Bridges is quite good and has
live blues music every night from 6-8, they have a sister restaurant,
Aptos Street, which is near Seacliff Beach.
Hindquarter in Santa Cruz is another one of my standbys, ribs steaks etc.
Given more guidance, I could make other suggestions. There are, of
course a lot of other things to do on that side of the hill. There's a
much wider selection of food over there. Great Ethiopian in San Jose,
Malaysian in Milpitas, Indian and Pakistani all over the place.

Lee and I are in San Jose, visiting a friend who moved here from New
Jersey. We will be in the area until Tuesday evening.
If anyone in the San Jose area on within an hour or two is interested in
meeting up, let me know. I will be out and about much of the day, but
will check email again this evening, or I can be reached by phone or
text (908)685-1090.
