Nice job. Did you have a light set up close to it so the background would fade to black? Nice lighting and it really pops from the background.
I agree that the crop isn't optimal, I'd crop the left side a lot tighter (maybe to match the space between the flower and the top) and then crop the bottom to get whatever aspect ratio you want.
