I wish him luck, back in the day, Bronica had the reputation of being the most mechanically unreliable of the makers of Medium Format, film gear.  Their saving graces were that they were supposed to be easily repaired, they were inexpensive to acquire, and Nikon lenses were available for them.

I have only anecdotal evidence of this but I shot second camera, on a wedding, for a photographer, I was doing scut work for, as an assistant.

The only images that came out of that session were from my MX. Both his Bronica body's failed, in different ways.  The first had a shutter malfunction, and the second curtain was releasing too soon, on the second a, screw loosened and pushed the focusing screen out of adjustment and every image was misfocused, a problem I've never seen before or since.

What are the odds that both cameras you take to a shoot would fail in two different difficult to detect ways?

Watching him eat crow before the clients was not pleasant.  The refund delayed my paycheck by two weeks, and I think he missed a mortgage payment.

He had a set of three Nikkors for it, a wide, normal and telephoto,  and those lenses were really nice, when the cameras worked properly.

Update.

The Young Man has decided to keep it simple and despite your generous offers
has nabbed some kit from eekbay.

A Bronica 645 body, waist level finder, 2 x 120 film backs, speedgrip and 2
lenses - 75mm and 50mm. The seller apparently threw in 20 rolls of col neg and
a Western Euromaster IV meter (with invercone). Condition is pretty good with
some of it boxed, Glass all good. He paid 320 GBP which, based on completed
listings, seems good.

I'm amazed that in this digital age, good old film seems to be making a bit of
a renaissance - and in a 25 yr old off his own back ??

Hopefully dad will get a play with it all.....
