They do still have quite a way to go before you can call them the worst. After all, Hitler was elected to office.
Nevertheless, one of the few heartening things about all this is that quite a few Tories are able to put the country before their personal ambition, including Boris's own brother, and in that respect they are still fractionally ahead of the Republicans, whose apparently only honourable member, McCain, is no longer with us.
